Educators in the Future Learning Space
Quite simply put, the role of the teacher in the future learning space is immeasurable. As previously stated by the the organisation Teachers Without Borders, teachers are the largest professional group in the world and we are uniquely placed to not only shape the future generations of world citizens but we have the duty to develop their social conscience, their environmental awareness, and their respect for other cultures, traditions, faiths and world views.
Technology is ever evolving and developing and the ethical minefield it will create will mean that tomorrow's world citizens must be better equiped than ever before to use this power productively, positively. and inclusively.
The success of multiculturalism and environmental awareness in Australia is due mainly I believe, to the influence of teachers and schools. It augers well for teachers playing a pivotal role in meeting the moral, ethical and technological challenges of the future.
The future of 21st century refugees and their impact on the future on the world
As with any highly dynamic change in the world there are two options:
One is to embrace the change adapt to it, focus on the positives, welcome difference and find a way forward. This leads to peace. The other option is to see change as a threat, to close up, to resist, to fear the worst, to become hostile and to blame; this leads to war.
The positive and negative aspects of humanity will be manifested strongly through this period of refugee crisis.
I for one will put my energy and time into the positive option. I will choose to see the good in people, the benefits of meeting others from different cultures, who speak different languages, follow different faiths. I will open up and welcome. I will not build a wall and hide or fight.
One of my daughters and her generation already view themselves as world citizens. After undertaking overseas study and sharing space with other overseas students, she and other students have built an intricate network of connection and respect. My daughter would be welcomed by a friend she met studying on nearly every continent on the globe. She says this connectedness is a great feeling.
